The Parish An Americorps Story eBook Joel Smith Ryan Winet
As someone who thoughts about joining Americorp but never did, I found this story fascinating. It was a first hand look at what life was like in post Katrina NOLA and what being a member of Americorp was actually like. It's honest and insightful. The art was fantastic. The heavy use of black isolated the characters in the frame, making them feel alone. The close-ups were portrayed the characters emotions in a moving yet subtle and believable way.

The Parish An Americorps Story eBook Joel Smith Ryan Winet Reviews
Easy to read and well thought out plot. Great book if you're interested in being a volunteer or working for a nonprofit organization. Similar to another Americorps memoir book on kindle entitled, "I Wanted Sunshine But Ran Sideways".
As a former AmeriCorps member who spent time at the same place (Camp Hope) during the year preceding this storyline, I highly enjoyed this graphic novel. i loved how the author mentions many of the little details of everyday life there that i remember (FEMA water, giant bugs, mucking houses, the people, the local bar).
Class XIII (Charleston) Sliver 3 2006-2007
This story provides an illustrated glimpse into the post katrina world. It is done with a very human touch and approaches from a ground level point of view our nation's muddled response to a disaster most of us (me included) will never be able to fully understand in its scope and tragedy. The story follows a young man who at times seems to be as lost as the almost ghostly remains of the community they are serving. The characters were believable (not so much good or bad, but rather self interested, altruistic, petty, and everything in between - human), and there is even a touch of romance. This is a fast but meaningful read and it left me thinking.
